The office for Science and Technology
Under the leadership of the French embassy, the office for science and technology promotes French research and technological innovation in collaboration with local institutions and French organizations. In USA, the office is composed of professors, researchers and scientists led by a scientific counselor directly under the Ambassador. Offices are scattered over the USA territory with headquarters in Washington, DC and 6 local offices in the French consulates of Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco. This allows to cover all sectors with tremendous potential of research and technological innovations.
The Office for Science and Technology has several roles :
- to establish collaborations between teams in the US and France working in science and technology;
- to strengthen the role of French science and technology in the US;
- to channel back to France information on American R&D policies as well as current events in science and technology.
Our partners
- research organizations,
- universities and engineering schools,
- centers for technology transfer, incubators,
- businesses and technology clusters.
Our tools: promotional actions, Franco-American collaborative development, and technology watch.

The San Francisco chapter
The largest consular chapter in the world, it covers the states of North California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Idaho, North Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Alaska, Guam and Samoa.
The Science and Technology office in San Francisco is devoted to the study of the energy sector, in particular anything related to renewable energies and energy efficiency.
Conveniently located close to UC Berkeley, the Lawrence Berkeley and Lawrence Livermore National Labs, the very recent Berkeley Energy and Climate Institute, Stanford University, and of course Silicon Valley, the office is able to follow what’s happening in this exciting domain in the heart of the green revolution.
